On October 18, Kristiina Verro received her doctorate from the University of Groningen. She developed a database of 830 spectra obtained with X-shooter. X-shooter is an instrument on the European Very Large Telescope in Chile. A special feature of the spectra is that they contain a broad wavelength range. Using the database, Verro can say more about populations of stars. The research will also be useful because new telescopes will provide more and more data about stars and galaxies in the coming years. Her promoters are Scott Trager and Reynier Peletier.
